F.A.Q

What is Ecopsychology and how does it differ from traditional therapy?
Ecological Psychology, unlike traditional psychology, weaves together psychology, philosophy, history, biology, environmental studies, the humanities, and ancestral knowledge. It takes a wholistic and relational approach to understanding how our inner life is deeply connected to the living world.
It begins with the understanding that we are not separate from nature, but part of the same web of life, shaped by the same forces that shape the Earth.

At IILEYA, we hold a non-pathologising view of human experience, seeing distress not as a flaw or illness, but as a natural response to disconnection, loss, or unalignment in our relationships with ourselves, others, and the planet.

By integrating this perspective, we support personal flourishing while helping us understand our “psychic homes,” our place in the world, and what it means to be human.

How can Ecopsychology benefit my mental and emotional well-being?

Ecological Psychology supports mental and emotional well-being by broadening how we understand distress, situating it within our relationships, environments, and life stories.

It supports regulation, resilience and meaning, encouraging connection, a deeper sense of purpose, and awareness by making the unconscious conscious. This approach helps us navigate challenges with greater clarity and resilience.

How long does a typical Ecopsychology session last?

A one-to-one session can be 45-60 minutes, depending on the depth and focus of the work.

A company's session, workshop, or training can range from 1.5 hour modules to half-day or full-day formats, depending on the scope, number of participants, and desired outcomes.

Can Ecopsychology help with specific mental health conditions, such as anxiety or depression?

Yes. Ecological Psychology can support people experiencing anxiety, depression or burnout, and it does so without pathologising.

Rather than labeling these distresses as disorders, at IILEYA we understand them as natural, meaningful responses to disconnection, loss, or misalignment in our different relational ecosystems.

IILEYA’s focus is on restoring connection, fostering belonging, and supporting resilience through an integrative, trauma-informed and ecosystemic approach.

For who?
For anyone asking "what’s next?", such as people, teams, leaders, seeking In-volution and considering a purposeful change to achieve themselves.
It is for those in transition, needing to re-imagine and/or re-think their future amidst uncertainty, change, stressors and disturbance. And for organisations wanting to reconnect their culture and practices with values of care, sustainability and collective wellbeing.
Where do the sessions take place ?

The sessions can take place online or face to face.

How is Ecopsychology helpful for businesses or corporate settings?

This work supports transitioning companies wishing to review their corporate values and practices so they can re-write their stories. It is well fitted for HR/ESG professionals and Sustainability adepts who want to drive internal change.

What if my circumstances make it hard to access support?

For many BIPOC individuals, people from the Global South, and those from vulnerable communities, access to mental health support is often limited — even though studies show they are the ones most exposed to economic instability, intergenerational distress, discrimination, environ-mental stress, and intersecting crisis-related impacts.

IILEYA offers ReciproCycle sessions: an accessible €10 option created with equity and reciprocity in mind, designed to reduce barriers to care and offer a welcoming doorway into support.

If this is part of your lived experience, this option is here for you.

You contribute what you can, when you can — because everyone deserves access to care and support.
